Yazbukey is the moniker under which Paris-based sisters Yaz and Emel create their jewellery and accessories range. The two Turkish sisters have built up an impressive following for their particular brand of poppy fun.
With impeccable fashion credentials –collectively they have worked with Christian Lacroix, Maison Martin Margiela, Martine Sitbon, Givenchy and Jeremy Scott- they decided to set up their own label more than fifteen years ago and have never looked back. Their collections are now stocked in some of the world’s most hip boutiques and department stores including Colette, Isetan, Fenwick and 10 Corso Como, among many others.
The jewellery is primarily made from bright contemporary materials such as plastics or Perspex, laser-cut in colours that build up a bright Pop Art-like image. Playful and seldom without a dose of irreverent humour. It’s exactly the kind of thing to appeal to a younger audience or, indeed, anyone who doesn’t take fashion too seriously. Perhaps it’s exactly this flippancy that has made it a hit with some of the world’s leading stylists and fashion editors.
The range of bags and accessories follows a similar path, using more traditional materials to create anything from over-sized lips to cute little mice.
The current collection is inspired by Hollywood Confidential-style gutter glamour; tragic starlets and pill-popping screen heroes. It offers a wide range of choice to the punters from the amusing Plexiglas clutch bags to scarves fit for a drug-addicted diva.
